The Arkansas Bar Association is honored to have several judges provide short video clips on what they think are important for lawyers to hear from the bench. Our first judge is Judge Carlton Jones of the Eighth South Judicial Circuit. Judge Jones has served on the bench for a decade. ArkBar President Margaret Dobson was sworn in as Circuit Judge for the Seventh Judicial District serving Grant and Hot Spring counties on May 6, 2024. Arkansas Supreme Court Chief Justice Dan Kemp administered the oath to Judge Dobson at the Grant County Courthouse with her family and ArkBar leaders in attendance. Congratulations Judge Dobson! This is the first for an Arkansas Bar Association president to be sworn in as judge during her term as president, as well as the first woman judge as president and the first woman serving as circuit judge in the Seventh Judicial District. #News

ArkBar President Margaret Dobson was recently appointed to serve as the Seventh Judicial District Judge by Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders. A solo practitioner in Sheridan, Margaret has spent her career serving her community. She is the city attorney for Redfield, is an attorney ad litem, and has served as a Special Associate Justice on the Arkansas Supreme Court. She is a Rotarian and a Paul Harris Fellow and serves on a local and regional library board. She serves on an Incubator Committee at the Bowen School of Law. The Jurisprudence and Law Reform Committee solicits your ideas for legislation to be included in the Bar Association's legislative package for the 2025 regular session of the Arkansas General Assembly. Those ideas must be submitted by January 31, 2024. You can send them to Paul Keith at pwk@gibsonandkeith.com or to Leah Donovan at ldonovan@arkbar.com . The ideas are to be in bill form. The next Regular Session of the General Assembly will convene in January 2025. Members, sections, and committees of the Association are encouraged to participate in the development of the Association’s legislative package. Proposed legislation should be submitted in bill form and address issues concerning matters of jurisprudence and procedure, including reforms of the substantive law, and improvement in practice and in administration of the courts. Proposed legislation must be submitted by January 31, 2024. The Association’s bylaws charge the Jurisprudence and Law Reform Committee with reviewing the proposals and reporting their findings to the Board of Trustees. ...
